描述

Lorong Kinta is a lane that lies perpendicular to two main roads in Georgetown, Penang— Jalan Burma and Jalan Macalister. At the intersection of the lane and Jalan Burma is MEKIO Home Furnishing, a large complex selling furniture and interior furnishings, as its name suggests. The building used to house the well-known Rex cinema, which first opened in the pre-war years.

On the opposite end of the Lorong Kinta where it meets Jalan Macalister, there is the Golden City Hotel. Yet another historical structure, it once used to be the venue for a church in the 60s. Along the lane are more pre-war colonial shophouses and buildings, some of which are still functioning as commercial shops.

The vicinity of Lorong Kinta is considerably busy and popular with tourists, due to the numerous guest houses and hotels like the Sunway Hotel Georgetown just a few steps away, as well as an abundance of hawker food stalls and quaint cafes. There are also several educational institutions within walking distance of Kinta Lane, such as KDU College Penang, ATC College and the Sentral Technology College of Penang,

For those relying on public transportation, the lane can be reached via buses 10, 101, 102, 103, 104 and 304, which pass by bus stops on Jalan Burma and Jalan Macalister. Lorong Kinta is also extremely near to Prangin Mall, the city centre and Komtar, which are all about 1km or a 10-minute walk away. Naturally, the roads in the area surrounding the lane are usually congested, thanks to its central location, something that those travelling to the eateries or shops in Lorong Kinta will need to put up with.
