Originally an old rubber estate on the fringe of Kuala Lumpur, Taman Tun Dr Ismail has evolved into an urbane, tree-filled neighbourhood with an ever growing crop of eclectic cafes and restaurants.
Development for the TTDI area began in the early 70s, and was a joint venture between the Urban Development Authority (UDA) and a private developer. The project was deemed ambitious at the time, as the location of TTDI was thought to be “too rural” given that Jalan Damansara was the main access road, and was then narrow and unlit. Fast forward to today, the TTDI Master Plan has been revised multiple times to accommodate changes to fit with the times. Examples of this are the building of terrace houses instead of bungalows during the economic downturn in the 80s, townhouses , the building of a Central Market and also the Damansara Bypass to cope with traffic. It was subsequently awarded the FIABCI Award for residential property in the 90s. This escalated TTDI’s position as a coveted address, until the advent of newer, nearby townships like Bandar Utama, Desa ParkCity and Mont Kiara.
Buyers and renters to the area are faced with many choices in terms of type of residence; there are terrace houses, semi-d, bungalows, townhouses, low rise apartments and also the newer high rise apartments.
The area is well served in access and exit roads, 4 schools and a new MRT station. There is also the well known Kiara Trail which is popular with both hikers and cyclists. Fun Fact : One of the world’s largest firefly species lives here.
