Taman Jernih is a residential neighbourhood, mostly filled with rows of 2-storey terrace and semi detached houses. Within the neighbourhood, there is a kindergarten, which will make it easy for parents to drop their children off in the morning before heading off to work. There is also a surau for Muslims who would like to fulfil their religious duties close to home.
The town centre of Bukit Mertajam is just a short distance away – about 1.6km or 6 minutes by car. Here, Taman Jernih’s residents will be able to find a wide range of urban amenities like banks, restaurants, petrol stations, auto repair workshops, pharmacies, a post office, police station, and food and beverage outlets selling a variety of cuisines.
Those relying on buses to get around have to walk a little further to get to one of the bus stops along the main road, Jalan Kulim, with the nearest one located about 700m or a 9-minute walk away. Nevertheless, this also means that residents can easily access the amenities on either side of the road, either by walking, driving, or taking a cab.
Several governmental buildings like the Department of Veterinary Service, Bukit Mertajam (Pejabat Perkhidmatan Veterinar Daerah Bukit Mertajam) and Penang State Agriculture Department (Jabatan Pertanian Negeri Pulau Pinang) are also situated around Taman Jernih. The neighbourhood is a great location to stay for those working here as well.
Parents, on the other hand, will have no lack of choices of schools that they can send their children to, for example SK Convent Bukit Mertajam, SMK Convent (M) Bukit Mertajam, SMK Impian Bukit Mertajam, SMK Bukit Mertajam, SJK (T) Bukit Mertajam, SJK (C) Kim Sen, Jit Sin Independent High School and Kolej Kejuruwatan Bukit Mertajam (Penang Nursing College).
And for major medical emergencies, Hospital Bukit Mertajam is just over 3km from Taman Jernih. In conclusion, while the neighbourhood’s houses are by no means brand new, their generous sizes and ample nearby amenities make it a good location to consider, especially for families.
