IOI Properties Group Bhd (“IOIPG”) celebrated the official opening of its 10-acre Central Park in IOI Resort City, Putrajaya. Situated next to Palm Garden Hotel and just a stone’s throw from the 2.5-million sf IOI City Mall, the lifestyle landmark caters to families, fun-lovers, and furbabies alike with diverse sporting and waterfront amenities and a pet-friendly zone with an obstacle course.

“The Central Park is our latest offering rounding out the recreational and leisure landscape of IOI Resort City. We designed it as a placemaking initiative for the community to come together and get to know each other in a conducive social space while relaxing and unwinding amid serene greenery, scenic lake views and engaging sports amenities,” said Ho Kwok Wing, Senior General Manager, Property Management, IOI Resort City.

The park includes an open lawn, playground park, jungle track, floral garden, and other recreational spaces. It also has sporting facilities that foster active and healthy lifestyles, such as a skate and bike park and basketball, badminton, and futsal courts. Pet lovers will appreciate the pet-friendly zone, where furry friends can roam around and try different obstacles.

A Nature-Based Solution to Foster Sustainable Communities and Care for the Environment

The park is developed in line with the Group’s sustainability goals of Caring for the Environment and Developing Sustainable Communities. As a Nature-based Solution, the park offers various ecosystem services such as climate change mitigation and adaptation, alleviation of urban heat island effect, flood prevention, biodiversity conservation and enhancement of human well-being.

71% of trees in the park are transplanted within IOI Resort City, which is in line with efforts to reduce carbon footprint and conserve existing plants. Over one-third of trees planted are vulnerable IUCN Red List tree species, such as Dalbergia latifolia, Hopea odorata, and Khaya senegalensis. The park also supports wildlife such as butterflies, dragonflies, reptiles, small mammals, fishes, songbirds, waterbirds and raptor. In addition, solar-powered LED lighting is used in the park for more sustainable operations. IOI Properties Group aspires to conserve the park for long-term contribution towards UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG11, SDG13, SDG14 and SDG15.

For the opening of the lifestyle landmark, more than 1,000 visitors and public members turned up at the Central Park at IOI Resort City to enjoy numerous activities for families and fun-seekers, including a petting zoo, skateboard trial lesson, futsal tournament, Zumba session, carnival games, food trucks and more. Participants were also invited for a biodiversity walk with Dr Thary Gazi Goh, ecologist and founding partner from the Urban Biodiversity Initiative.

“During the walk, we spotted Baya Weaver nests and learned about their love story which includes nesting ecology and design to protect themselves from predators. We also observed the beauty of waterbirds such as the Oriental Darter, Grey Heron and Purple Heron at the park’s recreational pond, enjoyed the tunes of songbirds, shared knowledge about the habitats of dragonflies and butterflies, discussed various herb species, and explored how existing plants provide food and shelter to insects and birds, as well as how some conserved plants are initially propagated by birds,” said Dr Thary.

“The Central Park at IOI Resort City is privately owned and managed by IOI Properties Group to benefit the public, residents and visitors alike. Admission is complimentary, and all are welcome to enjoy the ample amenities and placemaking experiences we have crafted for the community,” concluded Ho.
